Ranks and Insignia
We shall be using US modified US Naval Ranks. They can be found here.
http://www.militaryfactory.com/ranks/navy_ranks.asp
Next to the rank, is the insignia that accompanies it.
Since we recruit, train, and fly officers, starting Rank will be Ensign.

It makes sense
As in the actual Navy, there are assignments attached to every officer grade. Expect specific divisions or assignments in the future. At the moment, we will stand with simpler officer designations.
- Ensign -
- Lieutenant Junior Grade -
- Lieutenant -
- Lieutenant Commander -
- Commander -
- Captain -
- Commodore -
- Rear Admiral -
- Vice Admiral -
- Commandant -
The two highest ranks, namely...
- Admiral Chief of Operations -
- Fleet Admiral -
... are reserved for myself and Cygna... he, of course, being the highest ranking officer in our organization, that of Fleet Admiral.
As the second in command, and the main Administrator of this site, I am therefore the Chief of Operations. Note, both the Commandant and the ACOF are 4 star rankings.
These rankings will be assigned to the profiles on the forum by myself or Cygna. Otherwise, there are NCO rankings that can be earned based on the number of posts one makes on the forum.

Badges
I based the rank badges on the shoulder insignia of the actual ranks. In the case of everything above the rank of Captain, I replaced the Anchor with a ship... specifically the top view of the Swordfish. It was sleek, it lent itself to a simple black and white rendering, I find it to be relatively unique and recognizable, and it was at hand. We can also use these badges on Sig images if we choose.
Otherwise, these ranks give us wiggle room for individual growth within the ranks.
In the future, changing the Star on the insignia for Ranks of Captain and below, indicates a position within the Staff Corps. For example, within the Navy, replacing the star with a Cross would indicate a Christian chaplain of that rank. Replacing it with a sickle moon would indicate a Muslim chaplain of that rank. We can therefore at a later date, identify specific positions within the Staff Corps, and adjust a rank insignia as necessary. This also does not need to apply to any rank higher than Captain, for at that point, an individual is a flag officer, and wears a Staff Corps designation separately.

Staff Corps
It occurred to me that a Line Officer is a combat officer, which means that being a Line Officer covers attack, defense, patrol, and recon. So, there is no need for a Staff Corp position to cover those duties. That leaves mining and trading. So, I created two staff corp positions...
Mining Specialist - Where you would know where to mine a metal or mineral, and where it currently sells for the most.
- Ensign
- Lieutenant Junior Grade
- Lieutenant
- Lieutenant Commander
- Commander
- Captain
Trading Specialist - Where you have a full map and trade Database, and you know the best routes for the day.
- Ensign
- Lieutenant Junior Grade
- Lieutenant
- Lieutenant Commander
- Commander
- Captain
At least, that's what I've come up with so far...
